Dr. Rains grew up on a farm 6 miles east of Wallace Kansas and graduated from Wallace County High School in Sharon Springs. She attended undergraduate at Fort Hays State University, majoring in chemistry. She then went to medical school at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine graduating in 1996.
Her Family Practice residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City was completed in 1999. Celeste began her practice in Oakley in August of 1999. Her family includes her husband, Mike, and 4 boys Mason, Macoy, McKellen, and Morgan.

Dr. Herscher grew up in Sutherlin, Oregon. He attended Pacific Union College in northern California and graduated with a degree in biochemistry. He attended Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1981. His internship was at Waldo General Hospital in Seattle Washington. John started a surgical residency in Cleveland, Ohio and then went into Family Practice for one year in Oregon. At that time he moved to Holiday, Florida for an office and hospital practice and practiced there for 16 years. He became board certified in Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulation in 2001 following by 12 years of practice back in Oregon. He joined Logan County Health Services in March of 2013. His family include wife Lynne and 4 sons.

Kyle earned his Master of Science in Nursing degree, with Family Nurse Practitioner emphasis from Wichita State University in 2013. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree from Newman University in Wichita, KS and received his board certification from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and licensed as an RN and NP in the state of Kansas. He holds certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support. While working as an RN at Via Christi in Wichita, KS, Kyle had experience in Emergency Medicine, the Burn Center, and the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit.  He did his third and final clinical rotation at New Frontiers in Oakley. Kyle and his family fell in love with the town and community and quickly decided this is where they would like to raise their children. Kyle and his wife Lindsay have 1 daughter and 3 sons.

Kerri knew at an early age she wanted to be a nurse. Her Grandma was in the nursing home and she went to visit her daily. She fell in love with geriatrics, and returned to the same nursing home at age 16 for her first job as a CNA. She graduated from Decatur Community High School in Oberlin, KS in 1991. She attended Fort Hays State University earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1995; and her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner in 2000. Kerri joined the staff at New Frontiers clinic in February of 2020.

Pediatrics

Tara Powell is a board-certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.  She was born and raised in Colby and attended Colby Community College where she received her Associate’s degree in nursing.  She continued her education receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Fort Hays State University.  Her Master’s degree specializing in pediatrics and Doctorate of Nursing Practice were obtained from Maryville University.  Tara’s experience includes the medical-surgical unit, women’s health center, pediatric unit, pediatric oncology unit, pediatric ICU, newborn nursery, and the neonatal ICU.  She is a member of The American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau.

Tara and her husband Scott have 2 daughters, Maleia and Hannah.  After moving around the world due to Scott’s military career, they have decided to return to the area to be closer to family.  Tara enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading, dancing, and riding horses.

Megan was raised on a farm north of Deerfield, Kansas. She graduated from Deerfield High School in 2010. Following high school, she attended Colby Community College for 2 years. Megan then moved to Hays and received an Associate’s degree in nursing from North Central Kansas Technical College in 2014. She lived in Garden City for a year and worked at St. Catherine’s Hospital. In 2015, she moved to Oakley and began working at Logan County Hospital as a night shift charge nurse. In 2016, she transferred to New Frontier’s where she worked as a clinic nurse for Dr. Rains for 6 years. In 2019, Megan graduated from Tabor College with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and graduated with a Master’s in nursing from Chamberlain University in December of 2022. Megan is now a board-certified family nurse practitioner. Her nursing experience includes long-term care, acute care, inpatient medical oncology, emergency department, and clinic. Megan is married to Caleb Baalman. They have 2 boys, Karter and Bennett, and a daughter, Peyton. In her free time she enjoys anything that involves spending time with her family and being outdoors. She also has a special interest in women’s health, nutrition, and fitness.

Micah moved to Oakley from Garden City with her husband and she enjoys the small town life. She graduated from Garden City high school in 2004 and received her Associates of Science at Garden City Community College in 2006. She then attended Wichita State University and graduated with her Bachelors of General Studies with an emphasis in Chemistry in 2010. Taking a break from school she decided to get her CNA license and worked as a CNA in multiple health care settings for a few years until she was accepted into the WSU PA program in 2013. Micah graduated as a PA in 2015 and has worked in urgent care and family practice settings up until she accepted the ER position in Oakley. A few of her hobbies include reading, drawing, scuba diving, snowboarding, and making stained glass projects.

Geoff grew up in Colby, Kansas. He joined the Air Force in September of 1999 and graduated top of his class from Air Force technical school as a Medical Technician in August of 2000. He deployed twice to Afghanistan as an aeromedical evacuation technician in 2002 and 2004. He deployed once as a Physician Assistant in 2016. He has 22 years in service with plans to retire as a Major from the Tulsa Air National Guard. His first degree was an Associate’s degree from the Community College of the Air Force in 2006. He then graduated and received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming in 2008. Geoff attended Physician Assistant school at Saint Francis University in Albuquerque, New Mexico graduating with his Master’s degree in 2012. He has worked as a PA in the active duty Air Force and for Labette Health. Geoff met his wife Gina while attending college in Wyoming and they married in 2007. They have 2 children Aspen and Laken who love sports, hunting, hiking, and vacations at the lake.

Sadie grew up on a farm in southwest Kansas. She graduated from Jetmore High School in 2009 and received her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Garden City Community College in 2012. Sadie worked as a Registered Nurse for almost 10 years before making the decision to further her education. She graduated from Fort Hays State University in 2021 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, and then the University of North Dakota in 2024 with a Master’s Degree in Nursing as a family nurse practitioner. Sadie’s years of nursing experience include the operating room, primary care, and home health. She is married to Chris Selenke and they have 2 kids, Whitley and Shay. Sadie and her family made the decision to move back to her husband’s hometown to raise their kids and be closer to their families. She loves spending time with her family, baking (especially during the holidays), and enjoys the community of a small town.

Josh grew up in eastern Colorado. He graduated from Colorado State University-Pueblo with a degree in Athletic Training. He attended DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania for his medical training and graduated in 2018. He has worked in the rural setting in the ER, rural health clinic, and caring for hospital patients. In his free time, he enjoys sports, music, and spending time with his family.
